Maine Audubon Mural
A schematic mockup of 1 of the 5 bird themed murals by Alison Brynn Ross
About the Project
We are collaborating with Maine Audubon to transform a cement retaining wall on Broadway in Bangor through 5 murals of birds and their habitat by Alison Ross of Eastport, additional smaller murals by art students from Bangor and Brewer High Schools, and the planting of native plant gardens.
Why birds?
North America has lost 3 billion birds since 1970 primarily due to habitat loss (Science, 2019).
This project will help people connect the existence of 5 iconic Maine birds to the existence of their critical habitats. The native plantings will serve as an example and encourage citizens to plant native plants to create more of that necessary habitat.
